Biography
Marti Lamar joined the St. Norbert faculty in 1993 and taught courses in Latin American and European history. She earned a B.S. in Social Studies Education (History and Political Science) from Indiana University at South Bend, a M.A. in European History from the University of Notre Dame, and a Ph.D. in Latin American history from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a University Fellow and Assistant Instructor. Dr. Lamar was also a Fulbright Scholar in Chile, 1988-1989, where she conducted dissertation research in the National Archives. Her primary research field was colonial Latin American history with specialization in the business and family history of early nineteenth-century Chilean merchants. That work included substantial study of late colonial women. In 2008 Dr. Lamar was honored by St. Norbert College with the Leonard Ledvina Award for Excellence in Teaching.
