Biography

Jim Hodgson joined the St. Norbert science faculty after completing doctoral studies at Montana State University, Bozeman, in 1970. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville in 1965 and earned a master's in biology at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo in 1967. Two grants from the National Science Foundation underwrote a study during which Hodgson conducted research in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin - Madison's Center for the Limnology on predator-prey relations of largemouth bass, benthic macroinvertebrates, and zooplankton. At Madison, Hodgson was recognized as visiting associate professor and was named an honorary fellow in the university's zoology department. Over 41 years, Hodgson served on many college committees and involved his students in research projects to a degree considered uncommon in the undergraduate level. He also actively led students towards graduate and professional school opportunities. Hodgson published numerous articles and presented papers in his field to professional groups. He was a frequent guest speaker at local service organizations and appeared as guest scientist in area elementary schools. In 1978, St. Norbert College named Hodgson the Outstanding Teacher of the Year and in 2011 awarded him Professor Emeritus.
