Biography

Frederick Schmidt joined the St. Norbert faculty as a professor of music in 1981. His teaching responsibilities included clarinet and saxophone applied lessons, woodwind ensembles, music education and student teacher supervision. Additionally, Dr. Schmidt conducted the St. Norbert College Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Pep Band. He also formed and directed the St. Norbert Community Band, made up of players from the surrounding De Pere area, beginning in 1991. Having earned an M.A. in Woodwind Pedagogy and his Ph.D. in Music Education and Clarinet Performance from The Ohio State University, he studied clarinet from Dr. Donald McGinnis, Dr. Robert Titus, and Joseph Lord. St. Norbert College awarded Frederick Schmidt Professor Emeritus in 2010.
