Biography

Larry Van Alstine joined St. Norbert in the Physical Education Department in 1972. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Norbert College in 1957 and his Master’s degree in Physical Education from Northern Michigan University in 1965. In addition to teaching, Van Alstine coached football (four years as head coach), women’s basketball, track, baseball, and cross country. He also served as building director for Schuldes Sports Center and as Intramural director. In May of 1989 he was named Director of Athletics at St. Norbert College. Van Alstine was active in the community with the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Parish. Over 30 years, he also earned a reputation as one of the top high school and college basketball officials in Wisconsin. In 1998 he was awarded Professor Emeritus for his dedication and achievements.
