Biographical / Historical
Dr. Robert Shemky joined the St. Norbert education faculty in 1966 before completing doctoral studies in Education at Indiana University. He received his BS in History and Political Science in 1947 from University of Michigan, as well as his MS in educational administration in 1955. Prior to St. Nobert College, Robert was already a 10-year college teaching veteran and previously taught high school for seven years, as well. His committee service at St. Norbert was extensive and he acted as consultant to the Green Bay Diocese Department of Education and early childhood education in the Green Bay Public Schools. During a 1977 sabbatical study, Dr. Shemky visited education programs in 10 select colleges and universities in the United States. He also visited schools in the British Isles and in Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary where infant and early childhood education was needed. Robert was a frequent community speaker and published many articles on education and childhood learning. He was a teaching fellow for the international institute for humanistic studies seminar and the seminar leader in 1978. In 1986 Robert was a recipient of the Leonard Ledvina Outstanding Teacher Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Shemky was honored as professor emeritus in 1989.
