Biography

Fabian Jolicoeur was born in Escanaba, Michigan in 1913. In the early 1930s he took courses in accounting and auditing at the Escanaba Business College and was a reporter for the Delta Reporter. Fabian joined the Order of Premontre in 1933 and was ordained in 1939. He received his B.A. in Philosophy from St. Norbert College in 1936 and was appointed to the faculty of the college the same year. In 1941 Father Jolicoeur transitioned to the faculty of Southeast Catholic and, in 1944, to the faculty at Archmere. In 1947, he became the assistant to Abbot General Noots in Rome in preparation for the General Chapter of that year. After an educational trip to the Holy Land in 1951, Father Jolicoeur returned to the college faculty as Chaplin. From 1955 through 1960, he furthered his education in French at Laval University in Canada, earning his M.A. In 1963, Father Jolicoeur succeeded the Rev. Bede L. Vande Castle as chairman of the modern language department and has continued working as a Chaplain and Professor of French at St. Norbert until 1978.
